POMPEII & HERCULANEUM WALKING TOUR WITH A REAL ARCHAEOLOGIST

This is a walking Tour to visit on the same day two very important archaeological sites: Pompeii and Herculaneum ruins. Both these sites are linked to their tragic destiny due to the 79 AD eruption of Mt Vesuvius, a volcano that still stands majestically close to the two cities.

Of the two sites, Pompeii is certainly the most famous and the largest. This ancient city has become the symbol in the world of a mocking destiny that while destroying it at the same time preserved it over time by providing scholars with an impressive amount of material to understand customs and traditions of Roman civilization.

Although Herculaneum is much smaller than Pompeii, it is better preserved. In fact, Herculaneum, unlike Pompeii, was completely buried under 20 meters of mud that  preserved incredibly well the most part of the buildings, furnishings, wooden objects, mosaic floors, etc.

This is a walking tour (NO transportation is included) and the transfer between the two archaeological sites will take place by EAV Circumvesuviana railway trains (the trip between Pompeii and Herculaneum takes about 15-20 minutes). Normally we do not have problems, but it could happen that the train is crowded and so we have to stand for the 20 minute journey. Skip the line included in the ruins, so you will not waste time in line to buy entrance tickets. Quick lunch break if required. (Entrance tickets and train tickets are NOT included).

You’ll meet our professional English-speaking REAL Archaeologist by a pre-arranged meeting point by main entrance of Pompeii site (Porta Marina Superiore). Of course this tour can be customized to your needs and requests and, if you prefer, we can start it from Herculaneum instead of Pompeii.  You’ll spend 2 hours in each site (+ transfer time by train from a spot to another) together with our professional English-speaking  Archaeologist and you’ll see some of the most important houses and building of both Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Some of the highlights (according to the availability calendar established by the two different offices of Superintendency of Pompeii and Herculaneum) will be in Pompeii the Basilica, the Forum, the Public baths, the bakery, some of the most important houses etc and finally the plaster casts. In Herculaneum the “House of Dears”, the house of “Neptune and Amphitrite”, the “Samnite” house, “The House of the wooden partition”, the thermal baths etc..
