In the north-eastern corner of the Forum stood the covered market where the townspeople could buy the food they needed. Built during the Augustan age, its main entrances in the Forum and Via degli Augustali were lined with shops. It originally had a secondary entrance on Vico del Balcone Pensile which was later closed off when the Temple of the Public Lares was built. The entrance under the colonnade in the Forum was divided into two gateways by a votive aedicule and led into the open space which was originally surrounded by a portico. RECIPE OF THE DAY OF THE ANCIENT POMPEII
IUS IN CORDULA ASSA (Sauce for roast tuna)
(Apic. 9, 10, 5) Ingredients:
Tuna fish fillets
3 tbsp strong vinegar
9 tbsp olive oil
4 finely chopped shallots
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp lovage seeds
25 g fresh mint
Instructions:

Put all of the vinaigrette ingredients into a jar and shake well to blend them together.
Brush your tuna fillets with oil, pepper and salt, then grill them on one side over a hot barbecue. Turn them and brush the roasted side with the vinaigrette. Repeat. The tuna flesh should be pink inside so don't let it overcook. Serve ... continue
